Story of Send is an animated, interactive website with a compelling narrative. It also needed a small-sized portable format that could load fast. To accomplish this, I created the entire animation in HTML and JavaScript.

The long journey from “send” to inbox is visualized as a spline track. Along the way, it’s elaborated as a chain of technologies — a collection of stories told through animations and sounds. For each story, the user has a chance to read how their emails are carefully handled by Google as well as explore the facts through videos and photographs of Google’s data centers themselves.

To efficiently compose the story plot cued by media elements (such as characters, environments, and ambient sounds), I created a Catmull-Rom spline editor that can generate and save alternative storylines, differentiated by the shape of the track and scene arrangement. Demonstrating different stories to the team has been fun because of this tool’s instant preview capabilities.
